Third Mainland Bridge Shaking? FG Sends Timely Message to Lagosians

Lagos - The federal government has dismissed as fake news reports that the Third Mailand Bridge in Lagos has opened up and is currently shaking.
In a statement that reacts to the viral online claim, the ministry of works through its spokesperson, Boade Akinola, said it is nothing but a false alarm, The Cable reports.
Akinola, quoting the controller of works in the state, Engineer Olukayode Popoola, said an on-the-spot report on the bridge did not reflect or observe distress as falsely reported.
The statement said:

“Giving an on-the-spot report on the Bridge, the controller, who said he just drove along the Bridge without noticing any opening or experiencing any shaking as contained in the social media report, advised members of the public.
“Especially commuters to ignore the insinuations as the Bridge, which is receiving regular attention along with others across the country, is safe for use.”
Lagos state govt reopens Third Mainland Bridge
Meanwhile, the Lagos state government on Sunday, February 7, noon announced the reopening of the Third Mainland Bridge earlier than the scheduled time, which was 7pm.
The good news was announced by Frederic Oladeindei, the commissioner for transportation, Vanguard reports.
It was gathered that with effect from Saturday, December 26, the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos would be closed to allow for expansion constructions.
This was disclosed on Tuesday, December 22, by the federal controller of works in the state, Olukayode Popoola, The Nation reports. Popoola disclosed that the closure will last for 72 hours days which would expire on Tuesday, December 28.
He said:
“There is going to be total closure of Third Mainland Bridge in order to allow for the casting of three number expansion joints on the Island Bound lane.
”The effective date of the closure will be from 12:00 midnight of 25th of December. So people will be allowed to use the Third Mainland Bridge to celebrate Christmas."
