Why we need Part of Recovered Loot, AGF Malami Gives Important Reason

Abuja- The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), on Monday, November 8, announced that his ministry is in need of more funds.

According to The Punch, Malami said his ministry was making efforts to ensure that it receives some of the looted funds to finance recovery operations.

Malami made this known when he appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Justice to defend his ministry’s 2022 budget.

He said:

"We are allocated some cost of collection from recovered funds to finance our recovery operations.
“To date, there are large sums of illicit money stashed abroad for which we are working at close quarters with ICPC and EFCC as dependable allies to effect recovery.”

Chairman of the committee, Ugonna Ozurigbo, in his opening remarks, noted that the business of government cannot be run in a vacuum and that budget approval is critical to good governance.

Ozurigbo said:

“Therefore, this exercise should be given the necessary importance that it deserves as we solicit your maximum cooperation and total disclosure of all material facts.”

Senior lawyers storm Malami's office, demand probe on Justice Odili’s home

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that senior lawyers under the aegis of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN) are demanding an investigation into the invasion of Justice Odili residence in Abuja.

It was reported that on Tuesday, November 2, the lawyers met with the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami and seek for a probe into the issue.

Members of the group, including Adegboyega Awomolo, Prof Yemi Akinseye-George and Jibrin Okutepa, among others warned that the recent development threatens judicial independence and the nation’s democracy.
