Breaking: Many Feared Dead as Fire Breaks Out in Popular Abuja Market

Bwari LGA, Abuja - Some traders are believed to have been killed in a fire outbreak at Maitama Market in Kubwa, Bwari local government area of Abuja, on Friday, November 5.
Daily Trust reported that a witness, the incident happened around 7pm on Friday.
The fire outbreak was said to have started from a shop where kerosene is being sold in the market.
The newspaper stated that the kerosene seller and her children are reportedly among the casualties but noted it cannot independently verify this.

Firefighters were reportedly battling to contain the inferno but hoodlums were frustrating the rescue operation.
Also reporting the development, The Cable stated that the cause of the inferno was not yet clear, but a trader said the fire broke out within the market.
A trader at the market was also cited as saying that “at least 20 persons” were feared to have died in the incident.
Some persons said it appeared to be an explosion, but it wasn’t clear what caused it.
Several persons are also said to have sustained injuries and have been rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, security operatives have cordoned off entrances to the market.
Vehicles reportedly destroyed as federal secretariat in Abuja catches fire
In another report, a portion of the Federal Secretariat located at the Three Arms Zone in Abuja recently caught fire. Some vehicles were said to have been affected by the inferno.
Legit.ng gathered that men of the fire service were at the scene to quench the fire. Adamu Idris Ahmed, said no fewer than 20 cars were affected by the fire incident.
Ahmed was reported to have also confirmed that firefighters are at the scene to put out the fire. The secretariat complex houses major government offices in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
