Ikoyi Collapse: Owner of Skyscraper Trapped Inside Rubble, Witness Claims

- According to reports, a witness to the building had claimed that the owner of the skyscraper is trapped alongside other victims
- Meanwhile, the number of those trapped in the building is yet to be confirmed as the witness revealed further that he and some of his friends worked at the construction site
Lagos state- A report by The Punch indicates that a witness to the Ikoyi building collapse has said the owner of the skyscraper is trapped with the other victims.
The number of those trapped in the collapsed building situated on Gerard Road, Ikoyi is yet to be confirmed.
The witness, who identified himself as Morris Ashiru to journalists, said he and some of his friends, came to work at the construction site.
He said the owner of the building, alongside a lot of people, were still trapped in the ruins of the collapsed skyscraper.

Ashiru said:
“Everybody was working. A lot of people came here from Abuja.
“The owner of the building is inside. He brought some clients to inspect the building.”
Since the incident happened at about 2pm, the deputy governor of Lagos state, Dr Obafemi Hamzat and the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu have done an on the spot assessment.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) is liaising with the police and the army to clear the rubble while searching for survivors.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that a piece of new information on why the 25 storey building along Gerrard/Bourdillon road, Ikoyi collapsed on Monday has emerged.
In a leaked letter the managing director of Prowess Engineering Limited, Murtala Olawale, who was the formal structural consultant of the building clearly informed the owner of the building Femi Osibona through his company, Fourscore Heights Limited of structural defect.
The letter dated February 20, 2020, and titled ‘Re-Proposed Gerrard Terraces for Fourscore Limited,’ revealed that Olawale went further to add that his company will be withdrawing its services as the two companies no longer share the same vision about the structure.
As 21-Storey Building Collapses in Ikoyi
Earlier, Legit.ng reported on another three-story building has collapsed along Cemetery road, opposite the health center in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos state.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) commenced operations to rescue those who may be trapped in the building.
Omolola Essien, the chairperson of the Lagos mainland local government also confirmed the incident in a social media post.
