Panic as Gunmen Invade Community, Kidnap 8 Funeral Guests in Ekiti

  • There is tension in Ekiti state as gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted eight funeral guests
  • Reports indicate that the incident occurred at Itapaji-Ekiti in Ikole Council Area of the state on Tuesday, October 26, leaving the entire community in panic
  • Meanwhile, the police spokesman in the state, Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the incident, noted that officers have been deployed in strategic places in search of the victims

Ekiti state- Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Tuesday, October 26, kidnapped eight funeral guests at Itapaji-Ekiti in Ikole Council Area of Ekiti state.

The incident occurred barely a week after four persons were abducted at Ayebode-Ekiti in the same local government.

The Nation reports that the gunmen besieged a house located in the heart of the town around 9.30pm and shot sporadically into the air before making away with 14 occupants of the building.

According to an eyewitness, the gunshots that lasted for over hours were said to have severely terrified the entire community.

The source stated further that the owner of the building was preparing for his mother’s burial and the preparations were said to have been on the top gear when the gunmen struck.

He said:

“The men numbering seven came around 9.30pm with guns and surrounded the building. They fired gunshots sporadically.
“As the occupants of the house were coming out, they were grabbed and made to lie face down. They were later taken away into the bush. They were 14 initially but six of them escaped into the bush.
“Early today (Wednesday), one of the family members received a call from the abductors and demanded for a ransom of N50m.”

When contacted, the spokesman of the Ekiti state Command, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident, adding the Commissioner of Police, Tunde Mobayo, has ordered his men to begin search for the victims.

He added:

“The Command is working on that. Already a special police operatives as well as the JTF have been deployed in that axis to ensure they rescue the victims and for possible arrest of the culprits.”

Fear engulfs Imo community as hoodlums gun down resident

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that a young man has been gunned down by some hoodlums in Abba, Nwangele local government area of Imo state.

It was reported that the man identified as Fidelis Nnadi was killed by the unidentified hoodlums along Okwelle-Umuezealaibe road in Imo state on Wednesday, October 27.

Various attacks on communities in the state in the past have always left residents living on the edge.

Fear in Oyo as police detonate explosive found at prison

In another report, on Tuesday, October 26, the Oyo state Police command said it detonated an explosive device found at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in the state.
