The hoodlums who attacked the facility overpowered prison officials and other security agencies in the centre.

They also succeeded in setting several of the inmates either serving terms or awaiting trial at the facility free.

According to an eyewitness account, the hoodlums attacked the centre at about 10 pm on Friday night, throwing grenades and other explosive materials to scare officials on duty at the facility.

Also reacting to the various attacks on correctional facilities across the country, the federal government has said that these incidents are organised.

The minister of interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola described the attacks as premeditated and to ridicule the government.

He said the attacks on the correctional facilities across the country are planned, coordinated and meant to make Nigeria unsafe.

The minister also said that attacks on prison facilities and jailbreaks worsened across the country after the #ENDSARS protest which took place in October 2020.
