President Buhari's Minister Reveals What May Cause World War III

Nigeria's minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has pointed at fake news spread through social media as what will be the main cause of World War III.

Mohammed made this assertion when he appeared before the House of Representatives committee on information, national orientation, ethics, and values to defend the ministry’s 2022 budget, The Cable reports.

He noted that compared to some decades ago, the means of accessing and spreading information have drastically changed, adding that this is partly why there is a surge in false reports across the world, Channels TV added.

His words:

“With fake news today and misinformation — I have always said here that the next world war will be caused by fake news.
“You can see even the US that use to pride itself on the freedom of the press is now questioning the role of the social media.”

Governor's ex-aide arrested for spreading fake news

Meanwhile, a former media aide to Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state, Godfrey Chikwere, had been arrested for allegedly spreading fake news and hate speech.

Chikwere reportedly made a post on his Facebook account that the Nigerian Army had lost self-respect and that politicians were the ones behind killings and would be the ones to give victims’ families money to startup businesses, in the state.

The post later generated reactions online and was read on several social media platforms. It was reported that on Sunday, October 10, the commissioner for information and orientation in the state, Uchenna Orji, was behind his arrest.

The former governor’s aide, popularly known as Baby Mouth, who was arrested and detained by the police following a petition by an Ebonyi state government official, slumped on Monday, October 11, at the facility where he is being detained.
