Breaking: Fear Grips Southeast as Gunmen Reportedly Attack Police Station, 3 Officers Feared Dead
- No fewer than three police officers have been sent to an early grave by gunmen in Afikpo North local government area of Ebonyi state
- The tragedy took place on Sunday, October 24, when the attackers struck at the Police Divisional headquarters at Unwana
- The spokesman for the Ebonyi police command, Loveth Odah is yet to confirm the attack as at the time of filing this report
Unwana, Ebonyi - There was pandemonium in Ebonyi state in the early hours of Sunday, October 24, as unknown gunmen reportedly attacked a Police Divisional headquarters at Unwana, Afikpo North local government area.
The Nation reports that three policemen on duty, one constable and two inspectors were feared dead in the attack on the division around 2am.
An indigene of the area who spoke anonymously said the gunmen were masked, however, one was killed by the police who repelled the attack.
It was gathered that the officer unveiled the suspect's face to ascertain his identity. Operational vehicles parked within the premises of the station were also said to have been burnt during the alleged attack, The Punch added.

It is not clear which group in the southeast state is responsible for the latest attack in what has now been a routine in the area and neighbouring states.
Meanwhile, the Ebonyi police commissioner, CP Aliyu Garba has faulted the reported attack, saying both its personnel and facilities are intact.
Garba said:
“Not true. Get the real facts of the situation from the PPRO. The police station and the facilities there, including vehicles are intact. The hoodlums were killed. Arms and ammunition were recovered. Take a trip to the scene for confirmation.”
Gunmen Set Another Police Station Ablaze in Southeast State, Free Suspects
This incident is coming after suspected hoodlums struck in Imo state, setting ablaze the Divisional Police Headquarters in Umuelemai, Isiala Mbano local government area.
The gun-carrying hoodlums who set the suspects free struck amidst a downpour on Thursday night, October 21.
Unknown gunmen kill police inspector in Anambra state weeks to guber poll
In a related development, gunmen killed a police inspector in Anambra state on Sunday, September 19. The assailants ambushed a police patrol in the commercial town of Onitsha and opened fire.
Police spokesman Ikenga Tochukwu said in a statement:
“The attackers drove in a Sienna vehicle… and started shooting at the patrol vehicle along Ukegbu junction.
