A Calabar-based makeup artist identified on Instagram as @97th._artistry recently got social media users buzzing with reactions over her use of fresh pepper in a makeup hack.

While fruits such as strawberries, beets and cherries are used as makeup, it is uncommon to see pepper fruits used for such purpose - even worse, habanero pepper.

Makeup artist, @97th._artistry, left jaws hanging when she decided to copy a video of a white lady using a pepper fruit to make her lips plump.

In a chat with Legit.ng's Kumashe Yaakugh, she said:

"I saw a video of another creator who suggested that pepper was a good lip-plump tool and I decided to see for myself if she was right."

The makeup artist said that she chose the habanero pepper because it’s what she could find in the market.

In trying out the supposed beauty hack, the makeup artist used the habanero pepper for hers, even though she stated that her lips were already plump.

After cutting the pepper in half, she applied it directly on her lips. Minutes after, @97th._artistry was seen teary-eyed and dabbing over her lips as the heat took over.

Recounting the experience, she said:

"Honestly, I didn’t even know peppers have different spice levels, thanks to the video, I know now."

Interestingly, she ended the video highly recommending the hack despite the discomfort it caused her.

Makeup artist speaks after pepper makeup hack

The beauty and lifestyle content creator says she didn’t have expectations when she posted especially with regards to it going viral.

"It really was just an innocent post made but it got so many views and so many different opinions, some people applaud while some detest it."

She recounted that after the application, she experienced a burning sensation from the pepper but it only lasted for a few minutes.

On whether she achieved her aim, she said:

"My lips did feel a little heavier, so I guess it worked. I can’t advice someone on what to do but I’ll say, try the things you want to try, don’t be scared! You’ll always come out stronger!"

Beauty hacks: Viral video shows lady using palm oil to make up her face, netizens react

The makeup artist is no stranger to using odd products on her face.

In a video shared via her Instagram page, the lady is seen applying palm oil on her cheekbones where ordinarily, a pink or red blush product would have been used.

The end result sees the makeup artist with a perfectly blended made-up face.
