According to Davido's father, the defamatory article would ruin the star's reputation and put him through unnecessary security searches and investigations when visiting different countries.

"My dad was calling me like, 'Where are you at?' I was like, 'I am home'. He's like, what's this? And I see it on the net, and at first I was like, no, I am not going to report it. Just let it go. It's April Fools. Then my dad was like 'no because you can fly a plane to any country now and then they bring 20 police to check you'...I haven't seen that type of drug in my life. So yeah, I am taking legal action because it might just go the wrong way if we just don't," Davido explained.

That said, he appreciated his Kenyan fans, noting that he had a good time in the country.

"Shout out to the people of Kenya. It was just one crazy person who decided to do an April Fool's joke, but the country...we just came from East Africa...we just did Uganda and Kenya...amazing...both shows...everything went well," he said.

As previously reported, on April 3, he issued a demand letter to K24 for ruining his reputation.

The Assurance crooner argued that the report portrayed him as a narcotics user and trafficker without any substantive evidence, besmirching his character and integrity.

In the statement, Davido's legal team outlined conditions the Mediamax-owned entity must meet to settle the defamation dispute.
