Emotional attachments are very difficult to break - Kingsley Speaks

In an exclusive chat with Legit.ng, the relationship therapist and coach explains why a person constantly revisits moments with their ex, even when in a new relationship.

He noted that people struggle to love someone who genuinely loves them when the person they truly love isn't the one they are with.

"Whether it be friendship or a proper relationship. When two people have invested time and effort into a relationship, and when the relationship is what you ever wanted and desired, if eventually, it didn't work out, maybe because of a breakup or death of the other party or something else, if this experience is not properly handled, an unmet need or needs will remain unmet. One or both parties will struggle to build a relationship with someone else, which I believe is what is happening to Jada Smith.

Jada Pinkett discloses she, Will Smith have been secretly separated for 7 years

"People struggle to love someone who genuinely loves them when the person they truly love isn't the one they are with. And when this is the case, even when they are with someone who genuinely loves them, they can't just love back. At the root of this is an unmet need and an unhealed trauma.
"Emotional attachments with an ex can ruin anyone's chances of being with a new partner. It makes you see the other party is never enough. And when the other party is never enough, the relationship will be a rollercoaster type of relationship.
"Friendship or emotional relationships leave us fulfilled or unfulfilled. When you are left unfulfilled, there's an immediate feeling of insecurity, which makes you keep searching while you mess up your relationship with people and anyone who loves you."
