Emotions Run Deep as Social Media Help Reunite BUK 92 Class 30 Years After Graduation

It was a nostalgic homecoming for the Bayero University Kano (BUK) graduating class of 1992 when they converged in the state to mark the 30th graduation anniversary.
Inspired by the creation of a WhatsApp group in 2016, the forum has to date expended more than N20 million on indigent students, sick persons, the poor, prison inmates, etc.
At the event, the forum chairman, Muhammad Sa'ad, disclosed that apart from numerous humanitarian activities, they are planning to build a permanent structure at BUK.
Sa'ad said:

"We have paid scholarships, tuition fees for students, a ransom for kidnapped members, medical bills of less privileged, bail for awaiting trial inmates and lesser offenders, among other aids."
Also speaking, Rakiya Abubakar observed that since reuniting, the former schoolmates have been able to nurture and sustain the various relationships established.
His words:
“We have assisted ourselves and many people. It will not be out of place to say our WhatsApp group is the bloodline, the backbone, the very essence of our several interventions to humanity and the community."
for Sani Kankarofi, a deputy commissioner of police and the organizing committee chairman, described the occasion as momentous, commending his colleagues for their kind gesture to those in need.
Kankarofi noted that:
"We place a premium on trying to support students to go further in their education. We also intervene at correctional centres by providing vocational materials at prisons for inmates to learn artisanal skills."
In addition, the forum's spokesperson, El-Yakub Shehu expressed excitement about the successes of the members who work in different sectors including academic, judiciary, business, politics, security and diplomatic services.
Yushau Shuaib of PRNigeria and Economic Confidential noted that the annual gathering is a platform to show love towards one another as it was during school days.
Kabiru Said Sufi, Dr. Dahiru Sani and other speakers emphasised the benefits of reunions. They advised graduates to give back to society and the institutions that moulded them.
In addition, Professor Aliyu Dauda, a lecturer during the 92 sets, praised the group for their generosity and being "humane and sympathetic" to all and sundry.
He said:
"I appreciate what they have done for me personally, as a retired Professor. I am very grateful to this class of 1992. I pray Allah will continue to make it easy for all of them."
Aside from a gala dinner, a football match, and visits to hospitals as well as sick/bereaved members, the old students paid a courtesy visit to BUK Vice Chancellor, Sagir Adamu Abbas, and Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.
Barewa Old Boys urge alma mater groups to contribute to improving Nigeria's education system
Alma mater groups across the country have been urged to contribute to revamping the education system in Nigeria.
The call was made by the secretary-general of the Barewa Old Boys' Association, Haroun Audu during an interaction session with journalists.
According to Audu, it is important for these groups to pay attention to some of the activities and welfare of teachers in their former institutions.
Minister of Education Adamu Adamu walks out on students over ASUU strike
Legit.ng recalls that a meeting between the minister of education, Adamu Adamu, and protesting students ended in a deadlock as the minister walked out on them.
The minister who appeared to be uncomfortable with the position of the students after their president’s speech staged a walk-out.
The minister later called the students back the same night to apologize to them for his action and appealed to them to put on hold further protests.
