OctaFX and KIR Foundation Join Forces to Help Children in Nigeria Get Back to School
The international broker OctaFX and the KIR Foundation joined efforts to provide underserved children in Nigeria with educational supplies as part of the charitable project ‘Back to School’.
OctaFX and the humanitarian Keeping It Real Foundation partnered this year to launch a special charitable initiative shortly before World Children’s Day on November 18, 2022. The project, called ‘Back to School’, was directed at providing underserved children in twenty-nine public schools in twenty-one states of Nigeria with educational supplies.
The project aimed to help 250 pupils who do not have basic educational supplies, such as writing materials, to go back to school this year and learn efficiently. A set of supplies for one child included a backpack, a dictionary, writing materials, and twelve exercise books. According to a recent report by UNICEF, 70 per cent of school-aged children lack reading and writing skills. In light of this report, the contribution was deemed necessary by both OctaFX and KIR Foundation.
‘The “Back to School” project started in 2012 as a way to increase the enrolment rate, attendance, and academic performance of some of the most underserved communities in Nigeria. This year is an exciting opportunity to continue working on one of the most important sustainable development goals together with OctaFX. We believe that quality education is not a privilege but something that every society should enjoy,’ said the representative of the KIR Foundation.
OctaFX’s brand ambassador Ambrose Ebuka decided to take part in this charitable initiative and visited Morning Dew Nursery and Primary School in Lagos on November 19, 2022. ‘It’s my first time in the Slums of Lagos, and this one is special to me because I was able to connect with the kids in two schools chosen by the program. During the sessions, I read together with the children, and after that, we had a small interactive session to test their knowledge. Overall, it was a great experience for the kids and me as well, and I hope to see them soon again,’ Ambrose Ebuka said about the event.
The need for this year’s ‘Back to School’ project was recognised during another charitable initiative where OctaFX and KIR Foundation provided underprivileged schools with ‘reading corners’ consisting of 150 books each.
‘With the “Reading Corners” project, the need for relevant books was covered. However, another strong need emerged—it turned out that not all children had writing materials to continue their education efficiently. And without proper education, many opportunities remain inaccessible to young people in Nigeria. That is why we decided to participate in the project this November,’ the OctaFX press office commented.
