EndSARS: LASU Students Vow to Join Sanwo-Olu’s Proposed Peace Walk

  • An attempt by the governor to extend a hand of fellowship to #EndSARS campaigners recent was rebuffed
  • Sanwo-Olu can now heave a sigh of relief as students of the Lagos State University say they will join the governor during the peace walk

LASU - Students of the Lagos State University (LASU) have said they will embark on the proposed peace walk by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Comrade Oladipupo Uthman Badmus, president of the LASU student union government, said this when the governor visited the school on Thursday, December 2.

Sanwo-Olu who inaugurated a new students’ arcade at the school was welcomed by the SUG President, Speaker of the Students Union Representatives, Rt. Hon. Mustapha Adejuwon, and hundreds of students.

The students commended what they called the governor's giant strides in Lagos state, especially in the education sector.

They also announced that all students of the state-owned tertiary institution have resolved to walk with the governor for peace and prosperity of Lagos.

Governor Sanwo-Olu donated two big buses to the students union as well as other gadgets and equipment for students.

Reacting to the decision of the students union, a student of LASU, Rukayat Adebowale, who spoke to a Legit.ng reporter via phone call, said the union acted on their own, adding that majority of the students were not contacted or aware of the decision.

She said:

“I heard it in the news (LASU students union decision to join the peace walk just like you did. We know the governor was supposed to visit today, but we never discussed the issue of walking with him at the union.

“I think the leadership of the union acted on their own because we were not carried along. All the same, that is their business, I am in school to learn, not to play politics.”

Rinu Oduala Berates Sanwo-Olu for Proposing Peace Walk

Popular #EndSARS campaigner and activist Rinu Oduala had rejected Sanwo-Olu’s offer to the youths in Lagos state to join him for a peace walk.

An angry Rinu wrote on social media in response to the governor's request:

“Mr. Governor You will walk alone. No justice no peace. No healing without justice! We want work on justice, not empty walks! Police brutality is still prevalent in Lagos state!”

Lagos Govt White Paper on EndSARS Panel Report

Recall that the Lagos state government released its White Paper on the report by the EndSARS panel that probed the Lekki toll gate incident of October 20, 2020.
