Unilorin Lecturer Beaten to Coma by Student now Stable, VC Reveals

  • A lecturer of the Department of Microbiology, the University of Ilorin that was beaten by her student, has regained consciousness

Ilorin- The female lecturer who was beaten to coma by a student is now in a stable condition, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Professor Sulyman Abdulkareem, disclosed.

This was confirmed in a statement issued by the director of corporate affairs, Unilorin, Mr Kunle Akogun, The Punch reported.

The female lecturer, identified as Mrs Zakariyyah, is from the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Life Sciences.

Meanwhile, Mrs Zakariyyah, was allegedly beaten to coma in her office on Thursday, November 11, by a 400 level student of the institution.

The lecturer is now recuperating in an undisclosed hospital and she is now in a stable condition after the incident.

The statement from the school authorities read:

“This is to confirm that Mrs Zakariyyah is now relatively stable and recuperating after the ugly incident of Thursday where she was attacked by a 400L male student.
“A visit by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sulyman Abdulkareem, in the company of the Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Professor Oladiji; the Director, University Health Services, Dr Odunola; and a few other staff to the victim and her family, this morning, Saturday, confirmed that.”

The Vice-Chancellor described the incident as sad and unfortunate, assuring that justice would be done on the matter. He ordered proper care of the victim on the bill of the university and reiterated his commitment to the welfare of all staff and law-abiding students of the institution.

The newspaper gathered that the student has been arrested by the security personnel of the university and handed over to the Police.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that social media is abuzz with comments and opinions about the University of Ilorin's rules and regulations.

This was after a young lady identified as @tannwa_ revealed that she was made to remove her septum nose ring and pack her hair up by the school's security.

As reported by Thetattleroomng on Instagram, the young lady put up a video of her looking fresh as she prepared to go to school and mentioned that Unilorin ruined her day.
