FCT, Abuja - Baze University has debunked the viral claim that Senator Dino Melaye, a former federal lawmaker, graduated as the best student at its Faculty of Law.
The university, located in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), held its convocation ceremonies on Saturday, October 23.
At least three prominent Nigerian politicians, including Melaye, were among the fresh graduates.
Amid the convocation ceremony, claims started circulating on social media that Melaye graduated as the best student in the school’s law faculty.

Most of the posts claimed Melaye’s aide, Bode Gbadebo, published the claim on his Facebook timeline.
When contacted about the veracity of the claim, the university’s registrar, Mani Ahmad, presented Dubawa, a fact-checking platform, with graduation documents.
According to Dubawa, the documents revealed Melaye never graduated as the best student in law as claimed.
Although the former lawmaker actually graduated from the institution with a law degree, he was neither a first-class student nor the best graduating student from the faculty of Law.
It was also gathered that Melaye did not make the claim on any of its social media pages.
Gbadebo who was said to have made the claim initially denied it. He, however, later backtracked, saying he indeed shared a post with such a claim but was misled by Melaye’s photographer who initially made the claim.
