Offences Obi Cubana is being probed for
According to the source cited by BBC News Pidgin, the EFCC is investigating Obi Cubana for Evasion of Tax by the Cubana group, the socialite's company.
The source said other charges he is being quizzed about include money laundering and and abuse of Naira in public places.
Obi Cubana set tongues wagging in July when he hosted a talk-of-the-town burial for his mother in Oba, Anambra state, where over 200 cows were allegedly killed.
It is not currently clear if the abuse of naira charge is related to the spraying of money during the burial.
So far, Obi Cubana has spent more than 24 hours in the custody of the EFCC. BBC News Pidgin stated that the commission has said it will need to charge him to court if there is a need to hold the businessman up to 48 hours.
It was also gathered that the source said Obi Cubana will be released before 48 hours if the commission finds him innocent of the charges he is being probed for.
The Punch also reported that the Anambra-born club owner was currently being interrogated by operatives of the commission.
Though allegations against the socialite were sketchy, the newspaper cited a source as disclosing that his case borders on alleged money laundering and tax fraud.
The source was quoted to have said:
“Obi Cubana was arrested and brought to the EFCC headquarters on Monday afternoon over allegations of money laundering and tax fraud. He is being grilled by detectives as we speak.”
However, the EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said he has yet to be briefed on the development, Premium Times also stated.
