This electrifying event honoured three unstoppable young heroes - Mary Timbee, Khalifa Aminu, and Kundushima Kwana - whose courageous hearts, brilliant minds, and firm determination have transformed lives and inspired communities, defying adversity and pushing boundaries. As Dufil Prima Foods shone the spotlight on these exceptional achievers, it reinforced its commitment to empowering Nigeria's next generation of leaders, igniting a brighter future for all!
The inspiring stories of the three young children who refused to let their circumstances define them were gripping. Mary Timbee, the winner of the Social Bravery Award, was celebrated for escaping the shackles of forced child marriage. Determined to help others, Mary became an advocate, educating young girls about the dangers of child marriage and child prostitution. Her courage led to the rescue of four other girls from similar situations, making her a symbol of freedom and resilience.
The Intellectual Bravery Category was awarded to Khalifa Aminu, a teenage inventor who made eyeglasses for the blind, equipped with a beeper to assist the visually impaired. Khalifa, who made these glasses from scraps, shared that he was inspired to do this because he knew someone who was bind and he wanted to make mobility easier for him. His story serves as a reminder that true innovation often comes from a genuine desire to improve the lives of others.
Kundushima Kwana, who received the Physical Bravery Award, displayed applaudable courage during a herdsmen invasion in his town in Benue State. Putting his safety aside, Kundushima prioritised protecting the children and women. He was confronted by three of the herdsmen and lost an arm whilst fighting for his life. His selfless act of bravery is an incredible example of defiance at the risk of his life.
The ceremony also honoured Babatimilehin Daomi, the 2016 winner of the Intellectual Bravery Award. Babatimilehin’s story since winning shows the impact of the brand’s effort on their journey.
The night also brought life-changing news for the winners, as each received a N1.5 million cash award to support their future endeavours. Indomie Noodles believes that this reward will serve as a stepping stone, empowering the winners with the financial resource needed to their continue their remarkable journeys of courage, innovation, and resilience. Added to this, they were named as brand ambassadors for the noodles brand for the duration of one year.
What they are saying
Temitope Ashiwaju, the Group Head of Communications for Dufil Prima Foods, said about the award,
“A lot of times the people that have been celebrated in our country have been adults who would do things and expect a reward, but when children perform these wonderful feats, they do not have anything behind why they're doing it. They don't see a reward coming to them, they do it spontaneously and we feel that more of them that we encourage in our society, the more likely for a better tomorrow for Nigerians and most especially for the young generation coming behind”.
Karishma Rustagi, the National Coordinator for Indomie Fan Club, added, “We've always seen adults being celebrated time and again. So Indomie saw that as a gap, and we wanted to celebrate the young heroes, that is how this initiative was started.”
The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including Nancy Isime, who was the host for the event, Professor Abiola Sanni, Dean-elect of the Faculty of Law at the University of Lagos, and Founder and President of the Consumer Advocacy Foundation of Nigeria (CAFON), Mrs. Sola Salako, among others. These notable figures joined in celebrating the courage and brilliance of the nation’s youngest champions.
Guests were entertained by riveting performances by spoken-word artist Ibquake, the Tripple Heritage Dance Company, and a vibrant dance performance by The Dream Catchers, a group of talented young dancers whose energy and passion reflected the spirit of the event—celebrating youth, courage, and the unbreakable power of hope.
