Half Year IGR 2021: List of 10 States with Lowest Internally Generated Revenue
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) recently published the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) report at the state level for Half Year (H1) 2021.
According to the report which is available on the NBS's website, all the 36 states of the federation and the FCT have a total IGR of N849.1 billion in the period under review.
While some states made relatively huge IGR, some are on the bottom of the table with poor local revenues.

Here are 10 states with the lowest IGR in the first half of the year 2021:
- Yobe state - N4.0 billion
- Taraba state - N4.8 billion
- Gombe state - N5.4 billion
- Adamawa state - N6.1 billion
- Bayelsa state - N6.4 billion
- Ekiti state - N6.6 billion
- Benue state - N6.7 billion
- Kebbi state - N7.3 billion
- Katsina state - N7.5 billion
- Abia state - N7.6 billion

Six states that can confidently survive without any federal allocation
Meanwhile, the Annual State Viability Index (ASVI) recently published by Economic Confidential has revealed some Nigerian states that can survive without the monthly federal allocations.
The ASVI measured the viability index of states using each state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) as a percentage of its federal accounts allocation for the year.
Legit.ng gathers that states with an IGR of less than 10% of their total receipts from the federal allocations are considered insolvent. The states are Lagos, Rivers, Ogun, Kaduna, Oyo, and Anambra.
Dangote, MTN top list of highest tax-paying companies in Nigeria, with total remittance of N289.4bn
Dangote Cement Plc has emerged as the country's highest tax-paying company in the first half of 2021.
The foremost indigenous cement manufacturer came first among 152 listed companies on the Nigerian Exchange in the first six months of 2021. In the first half of 2021, Dangote Cement Plc joined 13 other firms listed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) in remitting a total tax of N289.4 billion to the FIRS and other revenue-generating agencies.
Dangote Cement paid into the coffer of the federal government a princely sum of N89.62billion, an increase of 144 percent from N36.71billion remitted in 2020.
