Uyo - The Nigerian economy fared better under President Goodluck Jonathan, Akwa Ibom state governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has declared.
The governor stated this on Thursday, November 11 at Government House, Uyo, while speaking at a special luncheon in honour of the former president.
Jonathan was in Akwa Ibom for the annual conference of the Nigeria Environmental Society and the marriage ceremony of the first daughter of his long-time friend, Professor Richard King.
According to Governor Emmanuel, the days of Goodluck Jonathan as president, in all indices, were better than now.

His words:
“I made a speech the other day. You know I like talking data. I analyzed the growth, the GDP, the exchange rate, by the time I finished the analyses, it was so clear that we did much better and today everybody, every eye have seen how the economy has been debased. That's why I say we feel proud of you anywhere we go to.”
Welcoming the guests, Governor Emmanuel, expressed great pleasure on the visit of the former president, describing him as the pride of the country.
The governor also seized the opportunity to thank the former president and wife for identifying with him and his family during his father's funeral, describing him as a great leader, a father and a brother.
Speaking earlier at the special luncheon upon his reception, Jonathan commended the pace of development in Akwa Ibom state under the leadership of Governor Emmanuel.
The ex-president who was accompanied by wife, Dame Patience, described the governor as a brilliant, competent gentleman that deserves to be encouraged for greater roles.
He stressed that given his acquaintance with the progress of Akwa Ibom since 1994, he is in a good position to judge the development of the state.
He said:
“You're a gentleman, a very competent person, a brilliant young man that needs to be encouraged and I believe he will continue to grow.
“From what we read and from what we see, you are doing very well. If you come into Akwa Ibom, you see a state that is growing.”
He prayed for Governor Emmanuel to have a good successor who will follow his good steps and continue to lead the state towards greater heights.
Udom Emmanuel’s Health Care Investments Critical to National Security, Says Jonathan
Recall that Dr Jonathan recently declared that Governor Emmanuel's prioritization of health care services in Akwa Ibom is a key component of national security and welfare of the people.
The former president made the comment while inaugurating the reconstructed Ikot Ekpene General Hospital Phase 1, in Akwa Ibom state, on Tuesday, October 12.
The inauguration was part of activities to mark the ‘Physicians’ Week 2021’ held in the state recently.
Governor Udom Emmanuel Optimistic of Better Nigeria With PDP
Meanwhile, Governor Emmanuel says there is hope of better days for Nigerians given the significant gains the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has continued to record as a party in the nation.
The governor made the comment on Tuesday, October 26, in Uyo, while flagging off the e-registration of membership and revalidation exercise of the Akwa Ibom state chapter of the PDP.
He noted that the current widespread groans of Nigerians due to poor leadership can be addressed by a proactive people-centric leadership championed by a party like the PDP that truly cares about the people.
