9th NASS: I'll not let my people down - Senator Nnachi vows

- The ninth National Assembly was inaugurated on Tuesday, June 11

- Dozens of newly elected senators were among those kick-starting their political journey into parliament

- One senator that has already caught the eye is Chief Michael Ama Nnachi representing Ebonyi south senatorial district

Senator representing Ebonyi south senatorial district in the National Assembly, Chief Michael Ama Nnachi has assured the people of his constituency that he will not let them down as a lawmaker of the federal republic of Nigeria.

Chief Nnachi made the vow in Abuja on Tuesday, June 11 during a reception to celebrate his inauguration as a senator.

He stated that he will move and support quality laws, adding that he will continue to work hard until the people of his senatorial district enjoy the full dividends of democracy.

His words: “Those in attendance here are not just the people of Ebonyi south, but the entire Ebonyi state as evidenced by the presence of the deputy governor of our state and other stakeholders from the three senatorial zones of the state.

“My brothers and sisters from Ebonyi south, I shall not let you people down. But lets also not forget that the main principal function of a lawmaker is lawmaking and not infrastructure.

“You will see quality laws from me that will come better than physical infrastructure. I can assure you all that I will never sleep. I will continue to work and work until the people of Ebonyi south enjoys the full dividends of democracy.

“I will also through my constituency projects provide those basic needs of life that will improve the well being of our people.

“Also, as part of my policy of inclusiveness, I will be doing massive consultations. I will run to the governor, the deputy governor and stakeholders of Ebonyi south for advice when the need arises.

“I will also form a caucus of Ebonyi south stakeholders who I will be having quarterly meetings with to discuss how to move the senatorial zone forward.”

Speaking at the event, the deputy governor of the state, Dr. Eric Kelechi Igwe who represented the governor, pledged the support and cooperation of Governor David Umahi to Senator Nnachi in his quest to provide quality representation for the people of Ebonyi south.

A gift card was also presented to the senator by the Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN).

Others present at the event include the Ebonyi state Peoples Democratic Party chairman, former National Assembly members from Ebonyi state, party chieftains, sons and daughters of Ebonyi state, as well as wishers.

Meanwhie, Delta state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, on Tuesday, June 11, congratulated newly elected presiding officers and members of the ninth National Assembly on their successful inauguration.

In a statement sent to journalists by his chief press secretary, Charles Aniagwu, Governor Okowa lauded the resilience and political sagacity of the newly elected presiding officers of the ninth National Assembly.
