In a bid to sustain his administration’s history of honouring high performing teenagers, Abia state governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has appointed teenager student, Chineme Joy Ota, as one-day governor in the state.

Daily Trust reports that the inauguration of the teenager governor took place in Umuahia, the state capital, on Tuesday, December 25.

Legit.ng gathers that Ikpeazu, at the event, expressed appreciation for the good performance of Abia students in public examinations in the last four years.

He also called on the one-day governor and her team to run the affairs of the state well within the limited period.

He said: “For the first time in the history of the state and possibly Nigeria in general, Abia students have maintained first position, back to back, in West Africa School Certificate Examination (WASCE) for four consecutive years.”

“I am confident that with the modest achievements, we have recorded in the education sector in the past four years and going forward, our future is assured in Abia state.

“We are not going to rest on our laurels but will continue to add to what we have done to ensure that Abia remains the number one state as far as education is concerned in Nigeria.”

Thanking Ikpeazu for the opportunity, the teenage one-day governor, who is an orphan, made a case for the establishment of a youth centre in the state to curb ceaseless cases of child abuse.

The first one day governor of the state, Joy Eze, is now a law student of Abia State University.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia on Wednesday, December 5, advised all employers to desist from the habit of rejecting members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to them.

He said the negative effect such rejection had on the psyche of corps members and the scheme was enormous.

The governor, who was represented by Ike Anyatonwu, commissioner for youth development, gave the advice at the closing ceremony of the orientation course for 2018 Batch “C” Stream II corps members deployed to Abia.
