Abductors Of Edo Spokesman Demand N20m Ransom

Less than 24 hours after he was abducted close to his house on Ikpoba Hill, Benin, kidnappers of Edo Deputy Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Kelly Odaro, have contacted his family, demanding N20m for his release.

Odaro was kidnapped by some gunmen around 9pm on Saturday while returning home from the Nigeria Union of Journalists press centre, Benin.

According to his wife, Patience, the kidnappers ordered him to call her and demanded N20m for his release

Narrating the sequence of the previous day’s event, Patience said people around the area informed her about the development.

She said, “Normally, when he is close to home he will call me, so that we can come from upstairs to open the gate, but I was surprised when people in our street came to call me that my husband has been kidnapped very close to our house by some gunmen.

“The doors of his car were opened and the ignition key was still there. Then the helmets the bike men used were by the car while my husband’s shoes were on the ground, but they went away with his phone.”

She added, “Throughout Saturday evening nothing was heard until Sunday, around 6am when the kidnappers asked him to call and demanded N20m for his release.”

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Anthony Airhuoyo, said the police “has since swung into action”.
