No fewer than 52 suspected criminals have been arrested and detained by the Delta state police command in connection with various crimes.

The state commissioner of police, Alkali Baba Usman, who announced the harvest of the suspects while parading them before journalists at the command's headquarters in Asaba, the state capital, disclosed that 27 of them were arrested on the night of March 2, during a raid in Asaba by the command.

He equally said six tricycle riders are in police net for flouting the state government order that tricycles must never ply Asaba roads after 10.pm.

Among the paraded suspects is Ogheneware Benson, who was arrested for stealing a Toyota Corolla car with reg number 425 DB at Effurun. Three others, Oyibo Shell, Efe Sosolobia, Ambrose Omoriyiwere, were arrested at Oghara in connection with the kidnap and murder of one Prince Onovirighose after collecting N1million ransom, while Efe Reuben, was also among the four-man gang that kidnappers Uyioma Usele in Ughelli South local government area.

Also paraded was one Emmanuel Okobi, who allegedly confessed to being a member of the gang that kidnapped the mother of Senator Aguariavwodo at Ovwian, in Udu local government area of the state.

Tejiri Samuel, Salami, a 21-year-old OND holder of Delta state polytechnic Ozoro and three others, namely, Ovie Godday, Aboh Iyede and Luckyone, who are members of the Vikings fraternity, were allegedly arrested with a locally made pistol and charms at Oghara.

Others include Effiong Clement, who was arrested with a gun while Ochuko Owene and Super Okoro, were arrested by soldiers while they were robbing traders at Efurrun market.

Henry Ogheneyerhovwo Matthew and Ezekiel Oghenewede Thompson were apprehended with a pistol and live bullets on their way to attack students at Otefe polytechnic. They confessed to being members of the Eiye confraternity, and Matthew was discovered to have been arrested for robbery back in 2012, and Thompson in 2015 for store breaking.

Three others, Edafe Mowe, Saturday Johnson, Lucky Joseph and Tyson Venture also confessed to robbing someone of N6,500 at gunpoint.

The CP explained that two suspected armed robbers were shot dead by the police in Asaba on Thursday morning when the robbers engaged a detachment of police operatives in a shootout at a robbery scene.

He said that while investigation is still on concerning the killers of Obi Ofulue of Ubulu Uku, five persons were arrested in connection with financial fraud in the state government. He promised that the police will never relent in its efforts to rid the state of crime.

Chief Samson Oladele, popularly known as ‘Iware’, 67, has cried out for help from meaningful Nigerians to come to his aid as he is silently dying from pains inflicted on him by some police officers.
