2015 POLL: Archbishop Warns Nigerian Politicians
Alfred Martins, the Archbishop, Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, has warned Nigerian politicians against any act that would lead to violence.
Daily Independent reports that the clergyman, who gave the warning during his sermon at the Holy Cross Cathedral on Sunday, urged politicians not to see the 2015 general elections as do-or-die affair.

Martins cautioned politicians to use the 2015 general elections as stepping stone towards providing quality stewardship to the electorate, and also advised the citizens against mortgaging their future and that of the coming generation for a mere “pot of pottage’’.
The Archbishop, who admonished politicians to learn from history said, they (politicians) should always recall and abide to the custom that power belongs to the people in order to guide their political activities.
“The political atmosphere in our country is highly charged with political activities as the year 2015 gradually draws near” Martins said. “I urge the good people of Nigeria to take their destiny in their own hands by ensuring that they do not abdicate their responsibility of having a say in those who govern them.”

Meanwhile, the catholic Archbishop, who expressed his concern for Nigeria, had earlier joined his counterpart on February 21, 2013, during the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) held in Abuja to blast the Federal Government while expressing worries over the lack of accountability and transparency at all levels of government in the country, which they blamed for the massive poverty and insecurity in Nigeria.
