Governor Uduaghan's Aide, Obi Of Issele-Uku Die In An Auto Crash
Sad news came from Delta State on August 9, 2014, Saturday, as Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s aide Sunny Ofili, the Obi of Issele-Uku Henry Ezeagwunam lost their lives in the deadly auto crash at the Otulu junction on the Benin-Asaba-Onitsha expressway.
According to SaharaReporters, the victims were travelling in a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) which got rammed from behind into an immobile truck, plate number FUG 238 XA Edo, loaded with gravel. The SUV burst in flames leaving no chance for survival to the victims.
An eyewitness narrated that the traditional ruler was driving, while Uduaghan’s adviser was on the passenger side at the time of the tragedy. Ofili, who used to be a blogger and worked for “Times of Nigeria” website, had allegedly monitored the primary election in his council area before embarking on the fateful journey with the traditional ruler.
The SUV burnt beyond recognition and the people around could barely hide their tears when a rescue team attempted to remove the burnt corpses of the victims from the destroyed vehicle.
The Federal Road Safety Commission also worked hard to solve the gridlock which appeared in the result of the accident.
Mr Ofili used to be a member of the Peoples Democratic Party. He occupied the post of a special adviser on information and communication technology (ICT) to the Governor of Delta State and intended to run for a seat in the Delta State House of Assembly to represent Aniocha North constituency.
Uduaghan’s aide also made some philanthropic deeds to communities in his council area as part of his campaign for the seat at the Assembly. For instance, he launched a campaign tagged ‘Liberation Mandate’.
Treacherous roads of Nigeria keep claiming the lives of people, despite their social status. Thus, a Former Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has recently lost his son, Hamza El-Rufai, in a ghastly road clash in the FCT.
Rest in peace
