President Jonathan Talks Tough On Insurgency

President Goodluck Jonathan has said the Federal Government will not compromise its sovereignty and territorial integrity because of the activities of terrorists.

NAN reports that the President, who was represented by Minister of Defence, Gen. Aliyu Gusau, made this known on Friday at the graduation ceremony of Course 22 Participants of the National Defence College (NDC) in Abuja.

According to him, government had x-rayed the fletching position and environment of terrorism in the country because of its extreme destructive and socio-economic impact, which made government, to initiate several programmes and dedicated platform to aid victims of insurgency quick recovery.

“We have made some gains against the adversary, we face an unspeakable evil and we must confront it with all our national endowment. As government we will not compromise our sovereignty and territorial integrity of Nigeria and we will not allow the authority of Nigerian state to be challenged. Education is a human right which is invaluable transformational value and is the basis of our development progress. We shall not give up that right for some faceless, misguided, self-styled using the means of terror,” Jonathan said.

The President further revealed that government was developing a broad base national security strategy anchored on the holistic well being of the Nigerians, and called on Nigerians across partisan, ethnic, religious and cultural divide to support the government in ending insurgency.

It would be recalled that Course 22, which was inaugurated in September 2013 to train some special personnel had 139 participants from all the security agencies. The graduands comprised 55 Army personnel, 40 Navy officers, 14 Air Force personnel, 5 Police officers, 10 other participants drawn from the paramilitary and civil populace, as well as 15 foreign participants.
