Fashola Makes U-Turn Over LASU Tuition Fees
Good times are here again for students of Lagos State University, LASU as latest reports informed that the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola (SAN) has ordered the school's authorities to revert to the old school fees.
It would be recalled that more than 200 percent increment in tuition fees being paid by student of LASU led to protests by students and strike by the institution’s lecturers.

According to a report published by P.M NEWS, the governor made the cheering announcement at the 19th Convocation and 30th anniversary of the state owned university today, 7 August, 2014.
It was gathered that Fashola's decision to revert to old school fees was received with jubilation by the students and their parents who were at the event.

During Thursday’s event the governor also commissioned the university’s School of Transportation.
It would be recalled that the astronomical increase in LASU school fees pitched the government against the students for several months.
The fee structure then asked Arts/Education students to pay N193,750; Social and Management Sciences,N223,750; Law,N248,750; while those in Communication/Transport, Sciences, Engineering and College of Medicine were to pay,N238,750,N258,750,N298,750 andN348,750 respectively.
After a series of protests by the students, government reduced the fees by 40 per cent, across board. But the students insisted that government lower the fees much further.
The students had demanded that the governor reduced the fees from N390,000 to N46,500. This led to the setting up of a committee to review the fees. The committee set up by Governor Fashola was headed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Kayode Opeifa.
Today, they even got more than they bargained for.
By cancelling the increases today, Governor Fashola has brought to an end the public resentment that the increases had engendered.
It was learnt that the Lagos State Government may be exploring other creative ways of funding LASU, as the fees paid only represented 10 per cent of the N10 billion LASU needs to run yearly.
