22-Year-Old Man Drowns In Third Mainland Bridge Lagoon

A 22-year-old man named Sule Jimoh, has drowned in the Lagoon River on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos, after he went for a picnic with his friends on Sunday, 3 August.

After the incident, his friends, Seun Atoyede, 17, Habeeb Balogun, 20, and Adewale Adigun, tried to flee the scene, but were caught by residents who alerted the police.

They were subsequently arrested by policemen attached to the Yaba Police Division.

The search party who went to the scene could not find any trace of Jimoh as his parents were only presented with his shirt and trouser, which were said to have been picked from the bank of the Lagoon.

According to a family source who spoke to Punch, Jimoh was a very devout Muslim who had just finished from the mosque that day, before his friends came and asked him to join them to Rowe Park.

“Initially, he didn’t want to follow them, but he yielded, after they pressed him to go with them," she said.

She added that the police must interrogate his friends to get to the root of the matter.
