Nigerian Army Changing Tactics To Fight Boko Haram, Says Chief of Air Staff
The Nigerian Army has said it is changing and updating its tactics in the fight against the dreaded Boko Haram sect in the North-East.
Speaking on Wednesday, August 6, at the 43rd graduation ceremony of students from the Air Force Institute of Technology, Kaduna, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adeshola Amosun said the force was doing everything possible to curb the insurgents, including reviewing its operations and re-training its personnel.
Still addressing the need for training of its personnel, he said any institution that is unable to train its manpower is doomed.
Adeshola said with the graduation of 260 aerospace engineers, the new institute was part of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) contribution that would help address the national security challenges, Punch reports.
Noting with satisfaction the level of achievements of the NAF so far in tackling security challenges in the country, the Chief of Air Staff said more efforts were being made to completely eradicate all forms of insurgency in the country.
"What we are asking for now is the AFIT Bill before the National Assembly. When passed, it will help us to develop more technologies that will further help in the fight against insurgency in the country," he said.
He therefore assured Nigerians that in no distant time, the insurgents will be dislodged by the military who have made significant progress in the fight against the dreaded sect.
Earlier speaking, the Senate President, Senator David Mark, who was guest of honour at the event, gave the assurance that the issues of resources and legal backing under the pending AFIT Bill at the National Assembly, is being given an utmost attention.
Meanwhile, report has it that the NAF is about to finish the production of an Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) to be used for combating terrorism in the country.
Last month, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Kenneth Minimah had said the army has developed new strategies to fight against the insurgency plaguing the nation and also the force to curb future security challenges.
