Bayelsa Students In Russia Cry Out
24 Bayelsa medical students who are on state's scholarship in Russia cried out yesterday over the failure of the Bayelsa state government in fulfilling its educational promise to them.
The students who protested in Kursk, Russia, voiced out saying the Bayelsa state Scholarship Board has not gotten across in the past 14 months; an action which has been delaying their scholarship allowance, which includes funds for books, medicals and winter clothing for the minus 20 degrees Kursk winter.

Revealing that they have written several letters to the Bayelsa State Scholarship Board, Bayelsa State House Of Assembly, the Bayelsa State Governor, Ministry of Education, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa state and many other concerned authorities in Bayelsa, the state which was recently listed amongst the top 10 Nigerian States with the highest federation account allocations.
The protesting students told Sahara Reporters that instead of yielding positive results, they got threats from the chairman of the Bayelsa State Scholarship Board, Evang. Hon. Foster Ogola, saying that they would be sent home if they continue to protest or complain.
The students in the video posted by Sahara Reporters said since they have been abandoned by their state government, they have tried working on farms and other places in a bid to make money for their upkeep but were arrested by the Russian police, who said their Visas do not permit them to work. They say as it stands now, they are likely not to resume for the next session in September since their fees have not been paid.
