Kwankwaso Reveals How To End Insurgency

Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has advised President Goodluck Jonathan to reduce the level of hatred and bitterness among Nigerians, if the government was actually interested in resolving the problem of insurgency.

The governor, who made this known in an interview with Vanguard at the weekend in his office, also accused the President of running a government based on ethnic sentiment and religious bigotry.

He blamed bad leadership being experienced in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) -led government for the reason behind the insecurity currently bedevilling the country, adding that the inability of the commander in chief to curb it was a display of Jonathan’s incompetence to rule the country.

“Now, they are just using propaganda. Look at the issue of the abduction of Chibok girls. The schoolgirls have been in captivity and they kept arguing — where are the names, who are they, where are the photographs; they didn’t believe that over 200 children were abducted. Haba! Even if it is 20 tortoise or goats! Won’t you look for them? One of the reasons I love this country is that we have people of integrity in all the regions, in all the states like my former colleague, former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili,” he said.

Kwankwaso, who acknowledged that the country was in a critical situation, noted that if insecurity is not halted, it would become the order of the day, where innocent people will be killed on a daily bases.

“What Nigeria requires now is a strong leadership that can effectively tackle the insurgency in the North-East, and other topical security challenges,” he said.

Kwankwaso suggested that one major way to restore normalcy in the northern part of the country was to draw out a Marshal Plan for the region, and urged President Jonathan to stamp his feet as the Commander –In-Chief of the Armed Forces, to tackle this security issue.

It would be recalled that over 234 female students were abducted on April 14, 2014, from their school in Chibok, Borno State, by members of the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati Wal-Jihad, popularly known as Boko Haram, in Hausa language meaning "Western education is sin”. The terrorist group has launched multiple deadly attacks and bombings which have claimed thousands of innocent lives in its quest to Islamise the country and put an end to what it described as westernisation.

Their menace has attracted the attention of the international community like France, U.S.A., China, Israel, Britain among others, whom have all promised to help the Nigerian Government put a permanent to their activities as well as rescue the abducted Chibok girls.
