US Will End Boko Haram – Hawkins
Jeffery Hawkins, the United States Consul General to Nigeria, has once again reiterated his country’s commitment towards putting a permanent end to the worrisome activities of the terrorist group, Boko Haram.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the US envoy, who made this known on Wednesday in Lagos, further revealed that President Barack Obama-led administration remained committed in helping the Nigerian government to rescue the abducted school girls from Chibok, Borno State.

According to him, the threat Boko Haram poses to Nigeria and the African continent as a whole has enhanced US extensive engagement with the Nigerian government on security issues.
"The US government’s interest in assisting Nigeria with Boko Haram predates the abduction of Chibok girls,” Hawkins noted.
He further explained that the security engagement also deals with intelligence that would help federal government curtail the activities of insurgents in the North-Eastern part of the country.

Hawkins, who noted that the engagement was not only in terms of intelligence, said: “We are working with the security forces on professionalising them and in dealing with human rights issues.”
The US envoy declined comments on the intelligence sharing operation, saying: “We are truly interested in providing the Nigerian government with the information they can use to appropriately respond to the Boko Haram threat.”
It would be recalled that on July 11, 2014, America’s Ambassador to Nigeria James Entwistle, and Senate President David Mark, reportedly had an intense closed door meeting in Abuja, over the worrisome activities of the dreaded terrorist group, Boko Haram.
The Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati Wal-Jihad, popularly known as Boko Haram, in Hausa language means "Western education is sin”. The sect has its stronghold in the north-east, as well as in parts of Cameroon and Niger. Thousands of innocent lives have been wasted in multiple attacks carried out by the extremists in their quest to create an Islamic state.
