Policeman Accidentally Shoots Self Dead In Aba

Inspector Sunday Mefo, a police officer attached to the Patrol and Guard (P&G) Unit at the Aba Central Police Station (CPS) in Abia State, allegedly shot himself dead accidentally on Sunday, July 27.

According to Daily Sun report, the incident occurred at about 10pm as Mefo tried to check the working condition of an AK 47 rifle, which he was to use for night duty.

Sources claimed that he had allegedly pulled the trigger of the gun and in the process, one of the bullets in the cache accidentally went off and hit him in the leg.

Mefo was reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital where he was receiving medical treatment.

Unfortunately, he died yesterday morning.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Geoffrey Ogbonna, said he was yet to be informed about the incident.
