Security Operatives Rescue Cameroon Vice PM’s Wife Kidnapped By Boko Haram
The wife of Cameroon’s Vice Prime Minister, Amadou Ali, who was kidnapped on Sunday, July 27, along with a traditional ruler of Kolofata town by the dreaded Boko Haram sect, has been rescued.
She was rescued by security operatives in Cameroon.
According to BBC Hausa Service report, about 16 people died in the rescue mission, though the Cameroon information minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary said government was still investigating the matter to ascertain the actual number of people killed.
Thousands of people have lost their lives since Boko Haram launched an uprising in 2009.
Boko Haram, which has repeatedly attacked states, especially those in the northern region of Nigeria, has spread its violence to other neighbouring countries like Cameroon.
Last week, a military court in Cameroon, convicted and sentenced 14 Boko Haram members to 20 years of imprisonment after they were arrested with weapons in March around Marwa in northern Cameroon.
Some days back, the insurgents reportedly blew up a major bridge linking Nigeria with Cameroon in north-eastern Nigeria.
However, Nigeria together with Cameroon, Chad and Niger have pledged to speed up the creation of a 2,800-strong regional force to battle the Boko Haram insurgents.
Meanwhile, two Cameroonian soldiers reportedly lost their lives in an overnight cross-border raid by the suspected members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect. The attack occurred late Thursday, July 24, in the border village of Balgaram in northern Cameroon.
