Boko Haram Attacks Adamawa, Scores Feared Dead

Unknown gunmen suspected to be the dreaded Boko Haram sect members are reported to have stormed Garkida, in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, killing several people in the attack on Sunday, July 27, 2014.

The village is currently under heavy gunfire as one of the residents of the area who is too shaken to provide his name told Premium Times saying: “We are right now locked up in our houses and all we can hear is heavy gunfire‎ which appears to come from all directions.”

Meanwhile, as a result of the attacks, the village head of Zar community, a retired wing commander, Dauda Daniel, is still missing, while some relatives of Daniel have expressed worries that he may have been abducted by the gunmen, according to Thisday.

Many residents have fled the community and gone into hiding as the whereabouts of hundreds of others is yet to be known as a result of the attack.

However, the number of casualties is not certain yet.

A twitter user, @emcee007, who hails from the attacked area, told that most of phones of his multiple friends and colleagues there were switched off. However, he has managed to get the following updates:

The Boko Haram sect have claimed responsibility for several attacks in northern Nigeria and other parts of the country from detonating bombs, to kidnap and causing havoc in the country, which has resulted in the death of thousands.

Just recently on July 23, the terrorists carried out another twin explosion in Kaduna state, killing at least 82 people.

Less than three days ago, gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram sect on Thursday, 24 July, 2014, invaded Garubula village of Biu local Government area of Borno state, killed 11 people including the district Head of Garubula village, Alhaji Ibrahim Dawi.

According to Human Rights Watch (HRW) analysis the Boko Haram insurgents have killed at least 2,053 civilians in the first half of 2014.
