While Doctors Striking, Patients Are Dying!

The doctors are striking while their patients are dying in hospitals, Delta State governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan said.

Uduaghan, a medical doctor himself, paid a condolence visit on the Commissioner for Works in Delta State, Honourable Funkekeme Solomon, who lost his elder brother, late Moses Solomon in Warri, blamed the doctors for the deaths of Nigerians who are waiting for treatment all over the country.

He also urged the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, to call off the strike stressing out that lots of the deaths were avoidable if the doctors were to be on duty. According to the governor, the death of Mr. Solomon, who died at the age of 49, was a sad reminder of the number of people who are dying as a result of the NMA strike.

It would be recalled that the indefinite strike is the second this year, after a previous strike was suspended on January 5. Strike was embarked on July 1 over pay, appointment titles and positions, two weeks after the health workers issued an ultimatum to force government to consider their demands.
