Robbers Kill Two Police Officers, Steal N24m From Bank
Four people including two police officers were on Wednesday, July 23 killed by armed robbers as they attacked a bank in the Alaba International Market in Ojo, Lagos.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident started at about 2.30pm at the Alaba cash center of Fidelity Bank.
Witnesses said four people died, while others were injured in the incident.
It was also gathered that the robbers carted away about N24m
A source said: “Some persons were injured and had been taken to the hospital, four persons died, including two policemen,” she said.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, who confirmed the incident, however said only one policeman was killed.
She said: “This afternoon, a Fidelity Bank Cash Center was robbed. Huge deposits were made to the tune of N24m at the cash center and when officials from the bank’s head office came to collect the money, they were waylaid. A policeman was killed in the process.
“We suspect an insider’s collaboration. Also, administratively there are questions to be answered because a cash center is not supposed to receive such amount of deposit. So far, we have made seven arrests.”
Over the past few weeks, Alaba International has been in the news for the wrong reasons.
On July 9, it was reported that a man who was caught with a corpse at Alaba International Market, Lagos escaped being lynched.
On Juy 18, it also reported that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) arrested two men, Chibuike Anibuife and Jonathan Nwogu with after they were caught with a dead baby girl in a sack.
