7 Policemen Detained Over Robbery At Anambra Govt House

Seven policemen attached to the Anambra State Government House have been jailed in connection with a robbery that took place within the premises about 13 days ago.

An unnamed civilian, who made a suspicious call around 2am, about 10 minutes before the robbery incident, has also been arrested.

About 13 days ago, hoodlums had invaded the Anambra government house, stealing eleven brain boxes of Hilux Vehicles, while two of the screens of the vehicles were equally smashed.

It was gathered by The Nation that the policemen were sleeping when the incident happened.

The policemen who were arrested for negligence of duty were taken to the B division of the state police command for interrogation and later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID’s) detention room.

One of the workers at the government house blamed 'Ogogoro' (local alcoholic drink) for the policemen sleeping on duty, saying all the women selling the drink at the back gate of the government house should be barred from staying there.

"Those people give drinks to the policemen and when they are drunk they go to sleep and I believe it was the reason why such thing happened," the worker said.

Meanwhile, the state command had already de-listed the policemen from going back to government house if they were released from detention, while their replacements had resumed work.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Emeka Chukwuemeka, said the incident was being investigated.
