Ebonyi: Impeached Speaker Supporters Attack Female Lawmaker
Nnenna Nwene, a member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, was on Tuesday reportedly attacked by supporters alleged to be loyal to impeached Speaker of the House, Hon. Chukwuma Nwazunku.
According to The Nation, Nwene was attacked while on her way to the house of Hon. Ikechukwu Ogbu, who is an allied of the new Speaker, Rt. Hon Helen Nwaobasi.

It was gathered that the new Speaker’s residence has been used as a meeting point for the 18 members loyal to the new speaker.
The new speaker, Nwaobasi, who is a representative of Abakaliki South in the state House of Assembly, was mounted as the new speaker on Monday following a majority vote from the lawmakers.
Speaking with The Nation reporter, Nwene said she was on her way to meet with her colleagues at Ogbu house when she was stopped by the thugs at Lawrence Onor Street.

“They poured dirty water on me and threatened to deal with me for joining others to impeach the former speaker” she said.
However, the lawmaker reiterated her support for the new speaker as well as the decision they had earlier taken.
It was reported on Monday, July 21, 2014 that the Ebonyi state House of Assembly speaker, Mr Chukwuma Nwazunku, was impeached.
