Members Impeach Ebonyi Speaker
The Ebonyi State House of Assembly has impeached speaker, Mr Chukwuma Nwazunku, in the morning of July 21, 2014, Monday.
The impeachment, according to the members of the House, was necessary due to the speaker's alleged gross misconduct, incompetence and corruption.
The impeachment process was carried out by 18 out of the 24 members of the House. It was done just immediately the ban on three members of the House, who were on suspension (Frank Onwe, Eni Uduma Chime and deputy speaker, Blaise Orji), was lifted.
The Nation reports that one of the suspended members, Frank Onwe, was the person who moved the motion that the speaker should be impeached, while Enyi C. Enyi, who is the minority leader, seconded the motion.
Eni Uduma Chime, who is representing Afikpo South West, thereafter moved the motion for election of Helen Nwaobasi, representing Abakaliki South state constituency which was seconded by Jerry Obasi.
