Rivers State PDP In Disarray Over Governor Amaechi's Council Tours
Latest information coming out of Rivers State, southern Nigeria, suggests that members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state are in panic over Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s tour of the 23 local government areas of Rivers state.
According to a reports published by PMNEWS on Sunday, 20 July, 2014, the party has criticised Amaechi’s tour of the 23 councils, saying the programme is driven by ill-conceived motive and attempt to intimidate and influence the electorate ahead the 2015 elections.
The PDP also described the meetings between Amaechi and the people in the local government he has visited so far as a grand plan and action by the All Progressives Congress, APC, leadership in the state to recruit political thugs and electoral mercenaries in the various LGAs.

According to a statement signed by Jerry Needam, Special Adviser on Media to Felix Obuah, the state party Chairman, wondered why Governor Amaechi has embarked on such a tour with seven months left of his administration’s life.
The Rivers State PDP also noted that from reports it got from the areas visited by the governor and his APC entourage, he has been asking the people to support the APC in coming elections in the state.
According to PDP, what the governor is doing is an open campaign by the APC using the Rivers State government platform and contravening the provisions of relevant sections of electoral guidelines, as provided in the nation’s electoral law.
It could be recalled that Governor Amaechi used to be a member of the PDP prior to his defection to the APC after a long drawn battle with President Goodluck Jonathan.
Governor Amaechi has recently stated at a function that he would never return to the PDP in the future.
Many political analysts are already speculating that Amaechi could contest for the presidency on the platform of the APC come 2015 presidential elections.
The governor made the revelation while speaking at the thanksgiving celebration of former Council Chairman of Khana Local Government Area Gregory Nwidam on Sunday, 13 July, 2014.
