NURTW Boss Kidnapped In Abia By Unknown Gunmen

Unknown gunmen have kidnapped Chief Sunny Nwakodo, Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Worker, Abia state chapter.

Chief Sunny was abducted on Thursday evening in Umuodom Ohokobe, Ndume Ibeku, Umuahia North local government area of the state while he was driving to his Ndume country home at the outskirts of Umuahia, the state capital.

According to Punch report, his abductors trailed him at the close of work and then double-crossed him and took him away.

The motive behind the abduction is yet unknown as the abductors are yet to make contact with the family.

The Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Geoffrey Ogbonna who confirmed the incident said the whereabouts of the NURTW boss is still unknown, while urging members of the public with useful information that could lead to the rescue of the victim to come forward with it.

He added that efforts were being intensified to track down the perpetrators.

The abduction of the NURTW boss is coming barely a week after the Abia State Commissioner for Agriculture was shot by unknown gunmen.

Kidnapping is becoming rampant in various parts of the country. On 16th July, gunmen on motorcycles stormed the Anguwan Faransa area of Gombi Town, Adamawa state and kidnapped one German principal.

Some days back, two suspected kidnappers were arrested by Policemen of the Department of Criminal Investigation, Ogun State Police Command, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Last week, the Lagos police reportedly rescued a 10-year-old boy from the hands of kidnappers and arrested one of the suspects.
