Nyako Reacts To His Removal As Governor Of Adamawa
Less than 24 hours after Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, was impeached by the state's House of Assembly, the ex-governor has spoken on his removal.
Speaking through his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Ahmad Sajoh, on Tuesday, 15 July, 2014, Nyako said he had accepted his fate but asked his traducers to be mindful of God’s judgment.
It could be recalled that the former governor was removed from his post after the Adamawa lawmakers deliberated on a report submitted by an investigative panel that probed allegations of financial misconducts against him.
The committee submitted its report to the House on Monday, 14 July, 2014.
It was gathered that seventeen of the 25 members of the Assembly adopted the report of the panel after Speaker Umaru Fintiri read the report on the floor of the House.
According to reports, the panel found the governor guilty of all the 16 allegations of gross misconduct leveled against him by the House.
According to the statement released by Nyako's spokesman moments after the state lawmakers pushed him out of power, the governor stated: “Praise be to Allah, we accept what has happened. This is the judgment of man; we should all remember that there is God’s judgment in the hereafter.

The ex-governor also commented on the resignation of his deputy, Bala James Ngillari, saying that it remained a nullity because it did not follow constitutional procedure.
The statement read: “We wish to state categorically that Section 306 (5) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as Amended requires that the deputy governor resigns not to the House of Assembly but to the governor.
“As of the time the supposed resignation was said to have been tendered in the House, Murtala Nyako was the Governor of Adamawa State.
“No such letter was written to him, none was received by him and none was approved by him. It should therefore be known that in the eyes of the Law, the deputy governor has not resigned. Bala James Ngillari is still the Deputy Governor of Adamawa State.
“This clarification is necessary to avert another subversion of the Constitution since the other processes relating to the impeachment saga have all been in contravention of the Constitution and the Law.”
The statement also cautioned that the continued abuse of the constitution and the laws of the land might spell doom for Nigeria’s democracy.
It would be recalled that Bala Ngilari, who has been recently served with impeachment notice along with his boss, Murtala Nyako, resigned from his position on Tuesday.
According to report by PremiumTimes, the Speaker of Adamawa State Assembly, Umaru Fintiri, read Ngilari’s resignation letter at the plenary on Tueady and which was approved by the lawmakers.
It was gathered that the sitting in the House was conducted amidst high security presence in the area, both on the roads and inside the complex.
The deputy governor was accused of extra-budgetary expenditure. The duo is also investigated in regard of fraudulent diversion of funds, intended for workers in the state.
