Nasarawa Assembly Starts Impeachment Of Governor Umaru Al-Makura
Nasarawa State House of Assembly has reportedly commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Umaru Al-Makura.
The official was directed an impeachment notice Monday, July 14, which notice was signed by 20 of the 24 lawmakers.
Al-Makura, accused of extra-budgetary expenses, is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while among Nasarawa authorities there are 20 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and only 4 APC lawmakers.
It would recalled that in a recent development Adamawa State governor Murtala Nyako and his deputy Bala Ngilari were accused of the same crime and were served impeachment notices, with 19 out of 25 lawmakers having signed the documents.
A 7-man panel was set to investigate the case, however both officials failed to appear at any of the panel hearings saying the due legislation process was not followed during panel constitution.
Nyako would later say he had forgiven those politicians behind the attempt to impeach him, calling them, however, unpatriotic and selfish.
