ASUP Terminate Strike On July 12, 2014, Resume Next Week
There are strong indications that the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) terminates its 10-month-old nationwide strike, which was triggered by poor funding of polytechnics and endless discrimination of poly graduates in the labour market.
An undisclosed source, who informed Legit.ng via e-mail in the afternoon of July 12, 2014, Saturday, confirmed the development, added that “the decision may not be unconnected with the meeting the Union had with the newly appointed Minister for Education Ibrahim Shekarau.”
A similar confirmation is published by PremiumTimes, referring to the words of Clement Chirman, the National Publicity Secretary of ASUP. The secretary also informed the newsmen that the resumption date is set for July 15, 2014, Tuesday.
ASUP has been on an indefinite nationwide strike since October 2013. Multiple meetings between the leadership of the union and the Federal Government, Nyesom Wyke, have previously led to nothing.

However, ASUP National Executive Council (NEC) conducted ‘fruitful’ negotiations with the newly-appointed minister, Ibrahim Shekarau, as a part of its two-day meeting, which has probably led to the resolution of the crisis.
