Tragedy was averted in Abia state as the popular Igwu bridge, which links Ndi Ebe Abam to other towns, collapsed on July 1, 2014, Tuesday, when a 25-ton tipper carrying gravel plied on it.

According to Linda Ikeji, no lives were lost, but the villagers have said as a result of the bridge collapsing they don't have access to other towns. The bridge, made with irons and planks, served as the only way for the residents of the area to travel to other towns.

The villagers are reportedly appealing to the Arochukwu LGA Chairman and Abia State Government to come to their aid and help reconstruct the bridge, which has been neglected for years, in a better way. The residents, who were adversely affected by this incident, begged for construction of a long-lasting bridge.
