According to Gowon who had in April said the current insecurity in the country brings Nigeria to another Civil war said with his years of working with different Nigerians irrespective of ethnicity and religion, he knew that Islam was never a murderous religion and such Boko Haram insurgents were not Muslims but he blamed Nigerians for the insecurity in the country.

Gowon said: “As far as security of Nigeria is concerned, everybody should be worried about the situation. Anyone who is not worried is irresponsible and I can assure you that this government is very responsible.

“The government is trying its best to deal with security problems in the country. Who caused the security problem; it is caused by all Nigerians and the outsiders who are invited to cause the havoc that we have in the country.

“Certainly Islam is not about murderous people. This group that is doing this is not probably Nigerian Islam but imported. Distractive Islam which is not the Nigerian Islam. So let us all put our heads together and deal with this particular problem.”

The dreaded Boko Haram has been responsible for various deadly attacks in the country.

The sect which has killed about 15,000 people so far since 2009, just today bombed Maiduguri, Borno State, and killed at least 18 people and injured 55.
