Adamawa Speaker Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri Confirmed Nyako's Impeachment Notice

Fresh indications that there is no going back on impeachment of the Governor of Adamawa State Murtala Nyako and his deputy Bala James Ngillari have emerged over the weekend. According to the Speaker of state’s House of Assembly, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, none of the 19 lawmakers, who signed the impeachment notice, have changed their mind, DailyTrust reports.

According to unconfirmed messages, prominent Adamawa elders and traditional rulers have persuaded some of the lawmakers to dump the plot to impeach Nyako.

However, the speaker debunked the rumour that 11 out of 19 lawmakers have called their signatures off through his Chief Press Secretary, Solomon Kumangar. He also added that this information was being spread by mischief makers, who put obstacles to the subsequent installation of “good governance in the state”.

Kumangar has further dismissed the allegations that the some of the lawmakers escaped to Abuja to avoid the wrath of public, saying the House members work normally and are to attend the session of the Assembly on June 23, Monday.

The press secretary emphasised that the impeachment notice on Nyako and Ngillari, despite their adsence, was served in accordance with the law, and not just through the pages of newspapers.

It would be recalled that 19 out of 25 Adamawa House of Assembly Members signed Nyako’s impeachment notice on June 18, 2014, Wednesday.

On the following day the Federal Government has frozen all the bank accounts operated by Adamawa State government.

Fellow APC governors, in the person of Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, decried the move, urged Jonathan’s Administration to focus on current security challenges of the country, rather than on oppressing the opposition.
