2 Women Assault Police Officer, Land In Jail
Two women have been sentenced to five months imprisonment by an Upper Area court in Zuba, FCT for slapping a policeman, Cpl. Abraham Omageni of Deidei police station.
The women, Binta Mamman, 35, and Safiya Aliyu, 19, both of Deidei, Abuja, were arraigned on Wednesday, June 18.
They were also charged with using abusive language and causing public nuisance.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Momoh Ibrahim, told the court that the convicts committed the offence on June 14, 2014, and were later arrested.
According to him, they used abusive language on the police officer and also slapped him.
They were arraigned on a three-count charge of criminal force and assault, use of abusive language and public nuisance.
They both pleaded guilty to the charges.
Presiding over the matter, the judge, Malam Aminu Sa’ad ruled that on the first count of criminal force and assault, the convicts shall serve a jail term of one month each without an option of fine.
On the other two counts of use of abusive language and public nuisance, he gave them an option of N20,000 fine each for the other two counts charge including the and declared the terms would run consecutively.
This is not the first time a police officer will be assaulted by civilians.
It would be recalled that in April, two women were arraigned in a Magistrates’ Court in Ota, Ogun, for allegedly slapping a policeman.
